Coronavirus: 101 cases recorded on Sunday

One hundred and one new coronavirus cases were recorded on Sunday, bringing the total so far to 3,545.

The ministry of health said these were the result of 2,781 tests. Among people tested who were already on the island, one in 18 was found positive to the virus, the ministry said.

Thirty one of the new cases were found through contact tracing, out of a total of 296 tests.

Meanwhile 778 tests carried out on private initiative found 33 positive results.

Nine cases were found among 230 samples tested at the labs of state hospitals.

A total of 223 tests were carried out after instructions from GP and among sensitive groups, which found eight new cases.

Eleven cases were found at the airports after 1,077 tests were carried out on people arriving to the island.

From 72 samples collected as part of an ongoing programme to assess people in education a total of five cases were found.

Ninety five tests carried out on migrants found three cases.

One test was also found positive among our samples taken as part of the a programme of testing football clubs.

Twenty seven people are being cared for at the Famagusta general hospital, which is acting as the island’s Covid hospital, four of which are in the high dependency unit. Two patients are intubated at the ICU at Nicosia general hospital in addition to three in the Covid ward.
