Two charged with voting fraud in the north

Two people were charged with breaking the ‘election law’ in the north during elections on Sunday to find a new leader.

In Engomi, Famagusta a voter put his own vote plus another envelope into the collection box in an attempt to vote twice, while in Famagusta a voter took a photo on his phone of his voting slip before putting it in the box.

Turkish Cypriots are voting for a new ‘president’ with polls putting incumbent Mustafa Akinci against ‘prime minister’ Ersin Tatar in a second round next Sunday.

There are 11 candidated, four representing parties and seven independents, all of whom had voted by 3pm with independent Ahmed Bora being the last to cast his vote.
