Coronavirus: 12 new cases seen on Wednesday (updated)

Twelve new coronavirus cases were confirmed by the health ministry on Wednesday, bringing the total to 1,755.

The new cases were identified as a result of 3,147 tests.

One positive test came from private initiative, seven from contact tracing, three from the Larnaca programme to test 3,000 people and one from a flight from Manchester.

The first of the three Larnaca cases had symptoms on Monday. The second and third cases relate to employees working for Ethnikos Achnas, from where all staff were sent to be tested after a number of the players were found to have the virus.

As for contact tracing, three of them were from the family background of an Asil Lysi football club player.

A further three were from the family background of the Briton whose positive test was announced on Monday. They arrived from England on 18/9 for holidays and on 27/9 the first person began displaying symptoms.

The final case from contact tracing is related to a contact of a football player from Ethnikos Achnas whose positive result was announced on 22/9. Despite having two tests scheduled by the health ministry, the person did not show up and instead did the test privately at a later date.

The final case relates to a person who arrived from Russia on 18/9 and took a test on the twelfth day of their quarantine.

There are currently 11 patients at the Famagusta referral hospital, with three at the high dependency unit. One patient was transferred on Wednesday to the Nicosia general hospital ICU.
