Woman seriously injured after stabbing (Updated)

A 36-year-old woman from an Asian country was taken to hospital in serious condition after being stabbed by her partner, 27, in Paphos.

The incident took place around noon on Othello street in Paphos after a scuffle between the two.

Paphos police spokesman Michalis Ioannou told the Cyprus News Agency that the scuffle appears to have been over family differences.

The perpetrator reportedly went to the woman’s workplace where he stabbed her.

The woman was taken to the Paphos general hospital with wounds in various parts of her body and underwent surgery. She is in serious condition.

Police said earlier the attacker was detained by members of the public who then handed him over to police officers. He too was taken to hospital with lighter injuries, caused by the knife he was holding, Ioannou said.

He admitted to the stabbing and is now being investigated for attempted murder, Ioannou said.
