Coronavirus: four new cases announced on Sunday (Updated)

The health ministry on Sunday announced four new cases of coronavirus from 2,845 tests.

This brings the total cases to 1,487.

Out of 207 samples taken under the programme of referrals by personal physicians and control, one case was identified. The person went to their doctor showing symptoms of the virus.

Of the 2,074 samples taken as part of the passenger and repatriation control, three cases were identified.

One individual is a Greek permanent resident of Cyprus who came from Athens on August 27 and had no symptoms.

The other two people arrived on a flight from Budapest to Paphos. One person is a British resident of Cyprus and the other is a Cypriot. Both had symptoms. They are not related to each other.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed but no positive cases were found.

From samples taken through private initiative, 334 tests were completed. From samples taken from the labs at general hospitals, 148 tests were performed. From samples taken through contact tracing of confirmed cases, 82 tests were performed.

Six people are being treated at the Famagusta Covid reference hospital, one of whom is in ICU. There is also one individual in ICU at the Nicosia General Hospital.
