Coronavirus: 12 new cases announced on Monday (Update 1)

Health authorities on Monday announced 12 new coronavirus cases after 3,588 tests.

Seven of the cases were detected among 1,182 samples collected in Paphos as part of a random screening programme involving 10,000 people. All seven were on holiday.

Two of the cases are from Nicosia with one already showing symptoms. Two others come from Limassol, two from Larnaca, and one from Famagusta.

Of three other cases, one is a secondary contact linked to a hen party cluster, one came into contact with a traveller from Greece, and the third one if a family member of a previous case.

Two other cases concern tourists from Denmark and Austria. They were among 1,716 samples collected from passengers at the island’s two airports.

The first arrived in Cyprus on Sunday. She is asymptomatic and was taken to Eden resort. Friends who were with her were quarantined in a hotel. The second case also arrived in Cyprus on Sunday.

The total number of cases has now reached 1,351.

Two people are being treated in hospital, one in the high dependency unit.

Turkish Cypriot authorities announced nine new cases on Monday from 2,412 tests.
