Two dead bodies in Nicosia apartment – police investigating murder (Update 3)

Police on Sunday were investigating what appeared to be a murder after two dead bodies were found in an apartment at old town Nicosia.

According to Demetris Demetriou, deputy chief of operations, police received a call at 6pm that there were loud shouts from a flat in Pericleous street. Upon arrival, the door was closed and officers had to break down the entrance so as to gain access to the home.

A woman aged 46 from Vietnam was found dead in one room bearing injuries to the neck, most likely from a knife. A bouquet of flowers was found next to her body.

Officers found the dead body of a man in another room, who also bore injuries from a sharp object. A knife was found next to his body.

Demetriou said they were investigating various scenarios including that the man may have killed the woman and then himself. The man has not yet been identified.

Asked if it was possible a third person was implicated in the case, Demetriou said “all possible scenarios are being investigated.”

Officers were at the scene which was cordoned off and the state pathologists Nicolas Charalambous, Sofoclis Sofocleous, Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou were to carry out an autopsy.
