Coronavirus: one new case on Sunday (Update)

The health ministry on Sunday announced one new case of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 944.

The confirmed case is a high school student and was found through 819 sample tests at schools. A total of 1,717 tests were carried out across the country.

As the case concerns a student, more information will be made available from the education ministry, the health ministry said. The government has undertaken to test 20,000 students and teaching staff as students have returned back to school.

The breakdown of all the tests is as follows : 577 from people working in hairdressers, beauticians or eating areas, 54 tests from contact tracing, 24 through private initiative, 819 tests in schools and 177 from microbiology labs in generals hospitals. In time for the announcement, the results for 24 repatriated persons, one sample from a person working in retail and 41 tests for people in vulnerable groups came back negative.

As of 3pm, there were three people at the Famagusta reference hospital. Three people are intubated at the Nicosia general hospital intensive care unit.
