Government subsidies are not allowed by EU directives

As a taxpayer I want to be repaid for the years of illegal subsidies and high cost due to monopolisation?

What rights do I have ? Generate some efficiencies or save some money then maybe something will happen.

Carrying on like spoilt overprivileged children will get them nowhere in my world, but we must remember this is Cyprus; where people who stand for nothing will fall for anything. Looking forward to the eventual privatisation.

However abc agreed to disagree with BE

As a taxpayer, it might have been wise to know that not a single penny of your taxes go towards electricity subsidies. Subsidies are non existent and also not allowed by EU directives.

On the contrary, as an electricity bill payer it would have been also wise to understand that, what the government is now trying to do is to use funds from the Electricity company’s reserves to boost its own cashflow balance. These are funds that would normally go towards network infrastructure enhancements etc.

In other words, this constitutes nothing less than indirect taxing on electricity consumers!

As per the article (last two lines) this is one of major disputes that caused the strike.
