Schools construction for new academic year to reach €37 million

Construction works at schools for the year 2019-2020 will cost approximately €37 million, the education ministry announced on Tuesday for works set to improve safety and the environment at schools.

Specifically, the ministry said the 82 projects would cost a total of €36,945,901. Some of the construction works were conducted during the second half of 2019, and others are expected to be conducted throughout the 2019-2020 school year.

Thirty-seven of the projects are considered large-scale by the ministry and will be funded with €35 million, while the 45 that are considered small with be funded with the rest.

Twenty-nine large-scale projects, with a cost of €30,258,543, will continue during the 2019-2020 school year, while eight large-scale projects, with a cost of €5,585,696, have been or will be completed before the start of term next Friday.

Eighteen small-scale projects with a budget of €514,439 will continue after the start of the school year, while 27 small-scale projects with a budget of €587,223 have been or will be completed before next Friday.
