New electric motorbikes for post-office workers

Transport minister Vassiliki Anastasiadou stressed the importance of protecting the environment on Friday, saying a big step was reducing emissions by using environmentally friendly energy sources such as natural gas, electricity and solar energy.

She was speaking at a news conference to present the five electric motorbikes recently bought by the Cyprus Post.

“The ministry of transport, within the framework of its competences, through specific policies and actions seeks to contribute to the whole effort for a better and a cleaner natural environment,” she said.

The five bikes are state-of-the-art vehicles acquired following a tender announced by the department of electromechanical services.

They are part of a broader programme to phase out environmentally harmful vehicles in the near future, Anastasiadou explained.

“Our constant striving is for technology to also serve the environment as the same time as our basic daily human needs, to significantly impact health and the quality of life,” the minister concluded.
