THOC hosts National Theatre’s Julie

Leaving the classic and timeless masterpieces temporarily behind that London’s National Theatre puts on comes a more contemporary play about wild and newly single Julie who throws a late-night party. Starring The Crown’s BAFTA-winning actress Vanessa Kirby and Eric Kofi Abrefa, Julie by Polly Stenham is a brand new NT production, and will be broadcast in Cyprus on Tuesday.

Directed by Carrie Cracknell, who has worked on previous productions of NT Live, the play is set at Julie’s party. In the kitchen, Jean and Kristina clean up as the celebration heaves above them. Crossing the threshold, Julie initiates a power game with Jean – which rapidly descends into a savage fight for survival.

Both the cast and the behind-the-scenes creators have received positive reviews. “[It] packs an emotional punch. Vanessa Kirby is magnetic as Julie,” said the Mail on Sunday, while The Stage’s review commented that it’s “provocative and profound. Carrie Cracknell’s direction is astonishing.”

This time it’s THOC Theatre that will host the screening since it’s being organised by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation and both Greek and Turkish subtitles will be available.
