President of Europa Donna Cyprus dies after long battle with cancer

The president of Europa Donna Cyprus, Evi Papadopoulou, died on Friday after a long battle with cancer.

“It is with deep regret and pain Europa Donna Cyprus announces the passing of its president, Evi Papadopoulou after a long battle with cancer. Farewell our Evi,” the organisation announced in a post on its Facebook profile.

President Nicos Anastasiades said that Papadopoulou was a personal friend and a friend to all women, “a pioneer, super active and very useful in a key post.”

“May her life serve as an example of strength and social contribution,” Anastasiades said in a Facebook post. He extended his condolences to her family and friends.

Papadopoulou was also one of the founders in 2002 of Europa Donna Cyprus that supports women with breast cancer and raises awareness on this type of cancer.

She was vice president of Europa Donna the European Breast Cancer Coalition since 2011.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985.
