Police investigating sudden death of Paphos woman

Police on Wednesday said they were investigating a case of sudden death after the family of a 48-year-old woman who died on Tuesday a few hours after being discharged from the Paphos general hospital filed a report for possible malpractice.

Alina Loizou, 48, went to the Paphos general hospital earlier in the day because she was feeling unwell, but was discharged and sent home a few hours later.

She was found unconscious in her bed by her daughter and was rushed to hospital, where despite doctors’ efforts she died.

Loizou’s family filed a complaint for possible malpractice. She had two children under 18.

Police told the Cyprus News Agency that they are investigating a case of sudden death and that no injuries were found on Loizou’s body.

The head of the Paphos general hospital, Spyros Georgiou, said that if the health ministry orders a probe into the incident, the hospital has the file with all the actions taken after her arrival at the hospital.

Loizou’s family hired pathologist Panicos Stavrianos to be present at the post mortem.
