Late drama as Apoel stun AEK in Cyprus Cup

Apoel staged a remarkable fightback against AEK on Wednesday night in Larnaca to advance to the semi-finals of the Cyprus Cup.

After drawing 1-1 in the first leg last week, Apoel were on the verge of going out on Wednesday as they trailed 2-1 after 89 minutes.

But two quickfire goals from Leonardo Natel (a penalty) and Giorgios Efrem turned the game on its head, despite AEK scoring a 94th minute equaliser as the match finished 3-3.

Apoel advance on the away goals rule, with the tie finishing 4-4 on aggregate.

Earlier, Apollon cruised into the last four with a 2-1 win over Karmiotissa, for a 7-2 aggregate victory.

Last week, Enosis Neon Paralimni and AEL booked their semi-final spots, with the draw taking place on Friday.
