Lute due in Athens on Tuesday

Athens announced on Friday night that UN envoy Jane Holl lute would be in the Greek capital next Tuesday.

The announcement came after the Greek foreign minister briefed the National Council on Foreign Policy.

During the meeting it was confirmed that the national line on the Cyprus problem was that it was an issue of invasion to be tackled primarily in terms of international law with an “end to the unacceptable system of guarantees and the withdrawal of occupying troops with a specific timetable”.

Lute was in Cyprus at the beginning of the month. Her task is to facilitate the leaders in coming up with terms of reference for a new round of negotiations.

She is to have contacts in Athens and Ankara before returning to Cyprus.
