Fourth suspect remanded over Nicosia fire

A 21-year-old man, the fourth suspect arrested in connection with the deadly fire and explosion in a Nicosia café in January, was on Tuesday remanded for five days by the Nicosia district court.

Three other suspects, 46, 32, and 29, are currently being held in custody in connection with the fire which broke out at around 2.40 am on January 30 on the ground floor of a building on Costakis Pantelides street in central Nicosia.

A woman, 42, who was living in an apartment on the first floor of the building was killed in the blaze.

The fire is believed to have been set by the 32-year-old on the instructions of the 46-year-old, who is the owner of the establishment.

The 29-year-old man was allegedly the driver of a large motorcycle used in the crime.

Police say that 21-year-old, who was arrested on Monday, was the owner of the motorcycle which he had handed over to the 29-year-old, knowing that the latter would use it to carry out the arson.
