Poetry and music on Valentine’s day

Candle-lit dinners, balloon and hearts is what generally comes to mind when talking about Valentine’s Day. But there are more unusual events to mark the day of love. The Goethe-Institute will spend Valentine’s Day evening with a trilingual poetry event by five Cypriot poets.

Nafia Akdeniz, Gür Genc, Giorgos Moleskis, Nora Nadjarian and Stephanos Stephanides have each chosen five of their finest poems that they will read in their original language, followed by a reading of their German translation by native speakers.

And in case poetry wasn’t enough, the readings will be accompanied by live music by Giorgos Morfitis.
The idea for this event was born last autumn during a dinner for poets in the garden of the Goethe-Institute, following a series of events with selected poems and prose by Joachim Sartorius, where they shared a meal and their love for poetry.

So, in a way, Goethe Institute invites the public to celebrate their shared love for poetry, keeping with the theme of the day.
