Two men jailed for driving offences

A 36-year-old man was jailed for three months in Larnaca on Tuesday for driving an articulated vehicle while drunk and causing a collision, among other offences.

The man was arrested in April 2017 after he caused a collision and injured a woman, 47.

He had been driving on the Kofinou to Larnaca road when he entered the opposite lane and crashed into the woman’s car.

Officers determined he had been driving under the influence, 107 microgrammes, his licence was suspended, and he had no insurance or a roadworthiness certificate.

The court sentenced him to three months in jail and suspended his licence for six months. He was also jailed for two months and had his licence suspended for two months for drink driving but the sentences will run concurrently.

The man was also fined €800 and got a two-month suspension of his licence for the crash.

Also on Tuesday, a 24-year-old man was jailed for one month after he was caught in Ayia Napa driving under the influence of alcohol and without his vehicle having a roadworthiness certificate.

He had his licence suspended for seven months, was given five penalty points, and a €170 fine.

Police said the man was caught in Ayia Napa on November 19, 2017.

A breathalyser gave a reading of 199 microgrammes while the legal limit is nine.
