Palace appoints new SGO boards, emphasis on women

The cabinet on Thursday announced the names of the new members of the boards of semi-governmental organisations (SGO), with the government spokesman stressing that an effort had been made to increase the representation of women and young people.

“The average age of the appointees is 48 years, which reflects the combination of young and mature people,” spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said.

Special care was taken to increase women’s representation, he added.

In the new boards, 36 per cent of the appointees are women, compared to 30 per cent previously. And the number of women occupying the top positions in the SGOs has gone up from 24 per cent to 33 per cent.

SGO board members serve a 30-month term.

The new presidents are vice-presidents of the main SGOs are:

Rena Rouvitha-Panou and Costas Koumis at the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority;

Emily Yioliti and Michalis Komodromos at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus;

Andreas Frangos and Yiannos Pantazis at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation;

Andreas Michaelides and Katy Hadjkyriacou-Loucaidou at the Cyprus Sports Organisation;

Petros Krasas and Tatiana Michaelidou at the Cyprus Ports Authority;

Stella Kammitsi and Demetris Tsingis at the Housing Finance Corporation;

Marios Pelecanos and Panicos Argyrides at the Cyprus Land Development Corporation;

Christos Karras and Margarita Danou at the Licensing Authority;

Antigone Athieniti and Soula Zavou at the Cyprus Theatre Organisation;

Charilaos Kythreotis and Antonis Antoni at the Planning Board.
