Girl, 13, in hospital after catching fire while lighting up fireplace

A 13-year-old girl from Paphos is in hospital with second and third-degree burns after catching fire while trying to light up a fireplace.

The incident occurred at around 4pm on Sunday.

According to authorities, the girl caught fire while trying to light up the fireplace in her home using a flammable substance.

She was transferred to the Paphos general hospital where she was diagnosed with second and third-degree burns to her face, right arm and backside. She was later transferred to the Nicosia general hospital. Her condition is considered stable.

The fire service put out the blaze that reportedly spread in the area around the fireplace.
