Dead woman pulled out of sea after car plunges off cliff (updated)

A woman was found dead in a car that plunged into the sea in the Cape Greco area of Ayia Napa on Thursday.

Authorities were alerted by a group of German tourists who had spotted the half-submerged vehicle.

Police divers later located and recovered the body of a woman inside the vehicle.

The victim was identified only as a Latvian national.

State pathologist Sophocles Sophocleous examined the scene before the car was pulled out of the sea.

Reports said the car was registered to a Cypriot man, the victim’s estranged husband.

He is said to have reported the woman missing late on Wednesday.

The case is being investigated by Famagusta CID and the Ayia Napa police station.
