The streets of life

The artist Spyros Demetriades returns to Nicosia after eight years with a completely new array of works inspired by the ‘Giclee’ method of drawing – the process of creating fine art digital prints using a modified Iris printer, a process invented in the late 1980s.

This is the third time in his long career that Demetriades has chosen Gallery Apocalypse to showcase his work, the first being in 1991. This will be his 40th exhibition, the first one being held in Prague while he was a student there between 1971 until 1977, while specialising in animation drawings.

The series of drawings that will be showcased reflect the artist’s interpretation of his childhood years, as he has self-admittedly been too focused on city life – focusing on the current socio-political issues of Cyprus as opposed to his hopes and dreams as a child. One of his works concerns a high-rise building which will replace one of his childhood playing grounds.
