Struggling Omonia fire coach Oliva

Omonia have fired their Spanish coach Juan Carlos Oliva after their third straight defeat to Nea Salamina over the weekend.

Oliva took over the reigns at Omonia in June of this year and began the season with two 1-0 wins over Alki and Enosis. However three consecutive defeats, against AEK, Apollon and Nea Salamina were enough to convince the top brass at the Nicosia club that a change at the helm was necessary.

A number of names have already been mooted to replace the Spaniard with Tomas Christiansen (formerly of Apoel), Imanol Idiakez (formerly of AEK) and Temur Ketsbaia (formerly of Anorthosis & Apoel) amongst the early favourites to take over.

Technical director Angel Gomes will be in charge of the team until a replacement is found.

Oliva became the sixth first division manager to be sacked following the same path as Baltazar, Kosti (both Apoel),Levy (Anorthosis), Pressley (Pafos FC) and Kaiafas (Ermis Aradippou).
