Man caught driving drunk with children

A 35-year-old man was caught in Larnaca driving under the influence of alcohol on Thursday with his four children in the car without seat belts on, police said.

The head of the Larnaca traffic police Haris Hadjiyiasemis said that Cypriot drivers continue to not abide by the traffic code and not take the necessary measures to protect themselves and their families.

He said the incident came just a few days after two fatal road accidents in Larnaca and Limassol.

The man was stopped at around 10am by officers on Grivas Digenis Avenue.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and having his children in the car without safety belts.

Police also informed the social welfare services about the incident.

Hadjiyiasemis urged drivers to act responsibly and take all necessary measures for their safety, especially that of young children.

“Save your own life and the lives of your children,” he said.

He said that police traffic campaigns continue.

On Monday, a 38-year-old man and a five-year-old girl died in two separate road accidents in Limassol and Larnaca. None of them were wearing seat belts.
