Akamas master plan to be ready by the end of the year

The Akamas master plan will be ready by the end of the year, while consultations to reach a consensus on the sustainable management of the Akamas National Park are to be completed in September, it was announced on Wednesday.

Following a meeting between the interior and agriculture ministers, it was announced experts will be called in to meet with the affected communities, with the aim of taking into consideration the socio-economic aspects. The master plan is expected to be ready by the end of year.

In the meantime, consultations to achieve the maximum possible consensus on the sustainable management of the Akamas National Forest Park, are underway and are expected to be completed in September. The plan will then be submitted to cabinet for approval.

At the meeting representatives of owners of land in the Akamas area and of communities voiced their concerns and submitted suggestions for mild development in the area.

They also stressed the need for the Akamas area communities to retain their populations. They said that the environment will be preserved by the measures already taken and by the residents of the area, who have been doing so for many years.
