Hip-hopping all the way from Russia

Ayia Napa may be thought to be the party city on the island, but Limassol always has something up its sleeve to get the party animal in us out and about. This week helping us get our freak on will be Russian singer, songwriter, record producer and actor Timati, on Sunday at Dolce Club.

Timati – Timur Ildarovich Yunusov’s stage name – studied the violin after his composer and conductor grandfather Yakov Chervomorsk deemed it a must. He also studied at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow but dropped out to focus on his music career, and what a career it has been so far.

The artist shot to fame after his appearance on the music reality show Star Factory 4 in 2004 with the band Banda. The next step up his career ladder came in 2006 when he released his first solo album Black Star and founded his own music label and production centre Black Star Inc. His second album, The Boss, was named best album of the year according to one of the top sites InDaRnB. The Boss launched his international career.

He is considered to be one of the most successful hip-hop artists in Russia and neighbouring countries and the only Russian artist to be popular around the world, according to some, so hip-hop fans get your fill of the boss on Sunday.
