Tobacco smuggling arrest

A Greek Cypriot man was arrested on Saturday night at the Ayios Dometios crossing for attempting to smuggle almost 18 kilogrammes of tobacco from the north to the government controlled areas.

Customs said that the tobacco was located in the man’s car during a routine check at the crossing.

He was arrested for illegal possession and trade of duty free merchandise and for tax evasion. The tobacco located is subject to tax amounting to €6,150, customs said.
