Psatharis gets out the gavel

Art lovers and collectors should find themselves at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia on Wednesday for the 24th Psatharis auction of Cypriot and Greek artwork for the chance to take great pieces of art home.

The 119 artworks by important Greek and Cypriot artists, which can be viewed at the hotel from Monday at the Akamas hall, are from the 19th century to date. Some of the exhibits were previously offered at auction by Sotheby’s and Bonhams.

The auction will not only offer art lovers a chance to see and acquire unique art pieces, but also rare maps from the 16th and 17th centuries and books will be up for grabs.

Founder and senior director of the auction, Nikos Psatharis said about this upcoming event that emphasis was put on figurative art with the biggest part of the collection comprised of landscapes, stills and representations of peasant scenes. “These are the scenes that shape our historic identity perceptions and define our aesthetics,” Psatharis said.
