National strategy to guide children’s internet use

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a national strategy for a better internet for children, which aims at educating young people about the challenges due to the rapid growth of the internet.

As part of the 2018 to 2023 strategy, a centre for the development of digital technologies and the safe use of the internet will be formed.

“In recent years there has been a significant increase in the use of the internet by children under the age of nine,” an announcement said. “Children’s exposure to digital technologies and environments from a very young age offers possibilities and opportunities for learning and education of which children need to be aware.”

The national strategy will take European guidelines into account and adopt ideas from other countries, while exploring the needs of different groups of the population such as teachers, parents and children.
