The Tenors of the 21st Century of Moscow will be joined by guest artist Alkistis Protospaltis in Limassol on Wednesday to perform in a gala concert to support the Sophia Foundation for children.
As part of the international music programme entitled Without Borders, the musicians will be accompanied by a five-member orchestra while they take us on a journey around the world.
The Tenors of the 21st century, a group of tenors enjoying solo careers also come together to perform certain concerts around the world, including the one in Limassol.
The ten Russian tenors, who have performed as part of the Ayia Napa Festival and at the Tracasol Cultural Centre in Limassol, each has his own solo career and has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the world, and since 2006 they have shared such stages together, giving around 120 concerts a year.
During their usual programmes they firstly perform individually and then take to the stage together to give a unique and dramatic performance.
Audiences have already enjoyed this in Austria, Germany, Italy, USA, Canada, Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Latvia, Kazakhstan and elsewhere. The opera singers regularly take part in cultural programmes and government summits. They have also performed in front of some of the world’s leaders, including Vladimir Putin and former president of USA George Bush.
They have also won awards, like the National heritage award in 2007 and the Moscow City Award in the field of literature and art in 2013. The soloists of the project Maxim Paster, Alexander Bogdanov, Mikhail Urusov and Dmitry Sibirtsev became prize-winners of Irina Arkhipova’s foundation award. Mikhail Urusov is an Honoured Artist of Russia while Alexander Zakharov is an Honoured Artist of Ingushetia. All the soloists of the project are the winners of many different vocal competitions.
In 2011 The Tenors of the 21st century released a DVD from a concert they gave in Austria, and in 2014 they released the album The Golden Age of Soviet Tango and started work on recording their first original album – the songs for which are written by composer Elia Neve.
The tenors, who have been making waves all over the world, will be joined by Greek singer Protospalti – who herself is no stranger to our island’s music scene. Born in Alexandria, Egypt to Greek parents, Protopsalti has been active in the alternative musical arena since 1975. That makes a 42-year career and she is showing no signs of retiring any time soon.
Protospalti has over 30 albums under her belt – most of which became gold and platinum. She has given thousands of concerts in Greece and the rest of the world, including Australia, America, Germany, Romania, Portugal, Holland and China. One of the highlights of her career came in 2004 when she took part in the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens. She also took part in the opening and closing ceremony of the Special Olympics in 2011, together with tenor Vittorio Grigolo. She has officially represented Greece on many occasions, the latest being when she performed at the international humanitarian Hope Concert in Berlin.
