Foul play possible in elderly man’s death

Police are investigating the death of 86-year-old Miltiadis Kleanthous who was found dead on Sunday morning with head injuries in his house in the Linopetra refugee estate in Limassol.

Police did not rule out the possibility of a criminal act, after securing a testimony that a number of persons  were seen near the 86-year-old’s house on Saturday night.

Kleanthous, who was living alone, was found by his daughter at around 11.30am.

The Limassol CID chief, Ioannis Soteriades, said that the 86-year-old was found dead, lying in a pool of blood.

“The conditions under which he was located are being investigated, and we cannot rule out the possibility of a criminal action,” Soteriades said.

It is believed that Kleanthous may have been robbed and murdered.

The body was examined at the scene by state pathologist Angeliki Papetta, while a post-mortem will be carried out this week.
