Russian arrested for man found murdered in Larnaca (Update 2)

A 49-year-old Russian man was arrested on Friday afternoon in connection with the murder of a 51-year-old Bulgarian, who was found in a store-turned-flat in Larnaca.

Police said the victim, identified as Daniel Nicolov, was found shortly after noon Friday, after neighbours complained of a foul smell coming from the apartment.

The man, whose body had already started to decompose, was found with a knife stuck to his chest in the apartment off Makarios Avenue in downtown Larnaca, which he shared with other flatmates.

Police said evidence at the scene suggested a struggle had taken place prior to the murder.

Treating the case as murder, police arrested the 49-year-old, with whom the victim had reportedly had a physical altercation last week in the same apartment.
