Thousands stolen after men ambush kiosk owner

Around €56,000 in cash and cheques were reported stolen on Monday from a 62-year-old owner of a number of kiosks in Limassol after he was ambushed by two men on his way to the bank.

According to the police, the robbery took place at around 9am while the 62-year-old was on his way to the bank to deposit the proceeds of the weekend.

While driving on Filopimenos street, the man reported, he was forced to stop his car after another vehicle – a white Honda – cut into him. The white car driver remained in his seat, while another man who was hidden somewhere in the same area, reportedly ran and slashed the 62-year-old’s front car tyre, and then smashed with a hammer the right rear window and took a bag that was on the seat with €56,000 in it. He then ran and got into the white car which then sped off.

The 62-year-old told police that both men had their faces covered with hoods. One of them was blond, the man said.
