The act of learning about private dictators

The Old Vinegar House and the Centre of Performing Arts MITOS will give another taste of what the Yard.Residency.17 has come up with during the seventh residency organised by the art centre tomorrow.

Under the name The Ice Cream Van, performers Loukia Pieridou, Sylvain Chevet, Dramaturgy- Louisa Borg-Costanzi Potts, Mentor- Diomedes Koufteros will use the vehicle of theatre to take the audience along the life of a not-so ordinary couple on one particular night.

Dinner is served, red wine fills their glasses and with every bite and sip, with every gesture and passing moment the subject at hand changes. They contemplate everything from the weather to whether or not to chop your head off. The performance will come to life through clowning.

This residency and the performance are based on research into the private lives of famous dictators. The research covers how these dictators grew up, a closer look at their parents, their dress sense, their sexual life and what made them human and what made some of them monsters.

The Ice Cream Van is inspired by current extreme political affairs and lifestyles. It does not look at what happens in front of the public eye, rather it goes behind closed doors, within an atmosphere of safety and intimacy.

The performance is for those who are curious about what these dictators get up to in their own homes and those who wonder what makes these figures into who they become.
