Fire out of control at Kivides village

Firefighters were on alert throughout Thursday night after a blaze broke out outside the village of Kivides, Limassol.

The fire started just after 8pm west of the village and in hard-to-reach terrain.

Authorities deployed a dozen vehicles to the area, while water-dropping helicopters were placed on standby, ready to start operating at first light.

Earlier in the day, firefighters had put out a fire in the Droushia area, Paphos, but not before it had burned six hectares of wild brush and trees.
