Pensioner dies a day after road accident

A 71-year-old man died in hospital on Sunday after being involved in a road accident in Nicosia on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The victim, was riding a moped on Nicosia’s Dighenis Akritas Avenue when at the junction of Dimitsani Street, he was hit by a car driven by a 36-year-old man.

The pensioner was taken by ambulance to hospital and operated on but died some hours later.

The driver of the car underwent an alcohol test, which came up negative.
