Local talent returning home

Local band Waterblack is back from an absence of three years playing in Britain. For their comeback concert, they will perform on Tuesday at Ravens in Limassol.

The alternative rock band was formed in Limassol in 1998 by childhood friends Andreas Economides (vocals, guitar) and Chris Charalambides (keyboards). In 2000 they moved to London where they recorded a demo album of original songs called Orem – which won several awards on garageband.com.

The two musicians began playing in Britain and Cyprus together with new band members Marcos Economides (drums), Johnny Vatikiotis (guitar) and Byron Athinodorou (bass). This is when the band officially recorded Orem. The album was featured on MTV OurStage and also received air play in Greece and Cyprus. In 2012, Vatikiotis left the band and was replaced with Xenios Ioannou.

On Tuesday, the band will play songs from Orem, as well as their single Mutiny and new material all the way from London.

The band will also be supported by Finding Kate, or Kate Pavli to those who know her well. Kate, who has also taken her career to Britain, will provide the night with an even bigger rock feel when she performs songs from her album Don’t Let Go.
