Cyprus Comic Con 2017 (Video)

A haven for gamers, YouTubers, fantasy buffs, board-game fanatics, all those obsessed with anime, “Star Wars” and “Game of Thrones” – and yes, comic-book fans as well – Cyprus Comic Con has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception four years ago.

This year’s two-day edition is taking place in one of the largest venues in Cyprus, the old State Fair grounds in Nicosia, and is projected to attract well over 10,000 visitors.

We paid a visit on Day 1, talked to cosplayers and ordinary fans, and tried to determine what exactly makes Comic Con special to its many attendees.

Over the past 70-plus years, the Cyprus Mail, with a small dedicated team, has covered momentous events in Cyprus’ modern history, chronicling the last gasps of British colonial rule, Cyprus’ truncated independence, the coup and Turkish invasion, and the decades of negotiations to stitch the divided island back together, plus a myriad of scandals, murders, and human interests stories that capture the island and its -people. Observers describe it as politically conservative.
