A tenor gives us a look into the future

When we think of opera singers we often think about Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Maria Callas and we also think of glamourous sets and costumes. This may still be the case for a number of performances, but the two shows that the famous Greek tenor Marios Frangoulis will present to us in Nicosia and Limassol, will show that a voice alone can carry a whole story.

The tenor, who is best known internationally for his song Vincero, Perdero, will perform in Nicosia on Thursday and in Limassol on Friday. He sings in Italian, Spanish, English, French, and Greek and he is fluent in all five languages.

Frangouis began singing at the age of eight in various choirs and at the age of 11 he played the part of Issachar in a school production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Many other school theatrical performances were to follow.

As he had also taken violin lessons and had tried his hand at acting, it was clear that his future lied in music and the theatre. At the age of 18 he moved to London and attended a three-year-long professional acting course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He continues his vocal studies in Italy in 1990.
He has worked with many famous names, including Andrew Lloyd Webber, George Dalaras, Mikis Theodorakis, Maria Farantouri and Nana Mouskouri. He has also taken his voice all over the world and is known for his charity work.

The tenor has a total of 16 albums to his name, and for his performances on our island he will share with the audience pieces from his upcoming album which is expected to be released in May.
