No laughing matter after Ayia Napa arrest

A 27-year-old woman form Bulgaria was fined €300 on Friday after she was caught by police in Ayia Napa selling nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas.

The woman was spotted by police officers at 3.30am accosting passers-by in a bid to sell gas.

Officers approached the woman after they saw her sell a balloon with the gas to a tourist.

In her possession, police found 26 unused cartridges, 29 balloons and some cash. All items were seized by the officers and the woman was arrested in connection with the commission of offences relating to negligent and reckless acts, and sale of a pharmaceutical.

She was brought before a court later on Friday and was fined €300. She was released after paying the fine.

Nitrous oxide is a chemical compound used in healthcare especially in dentistry, for its anaesthetic and analgesic effects.
