Limassol’s musical soul is in Yermasogeia

The second LimasSoul Festival will bring an array of Greek singers and musicians over to perform on Monday and Tuesday at Potamos Yermasogeia, where Limassol will find its soul.

After his performance on Saturday in aid of the Cyprus Red Cross, singer Panos Mouzourakis will stay on to entertain the Limassol crowd. But this time the singer won’t be alone, he will be accompanied by Myrto Naoum – a jazz, funk, soul and blues singer who took part in the Voice of Greece TV talent show – and violinist Dimitra Mpoulouzou.

The Greek actor and singer, who was born in Switzerland, is known for his unique way of talking, expressing himself and overall being out of the ordinary. He has a very funny side that he brings to all his performances and he has a way of making the audience feel right at home.

If Naoum is a familiar name to you, then Mazourakis will ring more than one bell as he was a judge on the Greek version of The Voice. He really was the judge that stood out with his unique way of talking and his constant reference to Chinese sayings. But it is not all about daring live performance and cracking jokes, Mazourakis has great respect for the musicians who have come before him and he has often payed tribute to Greek rock singer Pavlos Sidiropoulos by performing in concerts dedicated to the singer.

Mazourakis is a great opening act to get the two-day festival started.

The second act of the first day will be the local band Lopodites.

The alternative rock band from Limassol are Christos Katsountonos on vocals and guitar, Marinos Charalambides on drums, Nikolas Petrou on vocals and keyboards and Andreas Kerveros on vocals and bass. The four musicians came together in 2006 to bring to the Limassol music scene old Greek and other songs, as well as introducing their own songs to the stage.

A well-known band on the island, Lopodites have taken their act all over Cyprus while also appearing on television shows and the radio. So, they know what they are doing and are used to rocking a big crowd.

Tuesday is a triple whammy with Leonidas Balafas, Gymna Kalodia and Vyronoas Potsos.

Balafas is a Greek musician who marries the Greek tradition with afrobeat in his performances. The musician has released six personal CDs since his start in 2009. He uses more modern instruments, like the saxophone and trumpet, to add a bluesy sound to songs that still have a traditional Greek melody and rhythm.
Gymna Kalodia is a Greek rock band who often share the stage with Balafas. The trio is coming to our shores with a suitcase full of new melodies and old hits.

During their performance, we will see how a romance can die and then be reborn again, how fury can be ignited and never tamed again and how darkness can be its own kind of light.

Potsos, who has been performing in Cyprus, Greece and Britain for a decade now, will stay still for a while in Limassol – just enough to entertain us with songs from his three personal albums.

There will also be alternative and progressive sounds by POE Bar from 7pm until 8pm to warm up the scene. Food and drink will be available at the festival and children under 12-years-old can enter for free, just as long as they are accompanied by a guardian.

The cost for both nights is €25, while for one night it is €15.
