Lifeguards to work for longer in Limassol

Lifeguards will work longer hours on two of the biggest and most popular Limassol beaches until September.

The new hours for lifeguards at the two Ayios Tychonas beaches, Harmonia and Aphroditi, are from 6am to 8pm instead of 10am until 6pm, the secretary of the community council Antonis Antoniou announced on Tuesday.

The new timetable will apply until September 15. Half of the additional cost will be paid for by the community and the other half by the district administration.

Seven of Ayios Tychonas’ beaches have been awarded the EU Blue Flag for their level of cleanliness, and these are the two biggest of them, the secretary said.

On both beaches special wheelchairs exist which allow people with disabilities to access the sea, he added.

Antoniou concluded by saying that efforts to improve services for those with disabilities is currently underway at the beaches, including plans for the construction of facilities for the disabled at Harmonia beach.
