Stranded woman rescued from salt lake

A young woman was rescued by firemen on Sunday afternoon after being stranded on the Larnaca salt lake.

Police were informed at around 1.45pm that the woman had walked about 500 metres from the road but was unable to get back.

A rescue team and a vehicle responded to the call and with special equipment, ropes and stretchers, which officers used to transfer her to a secure area.

She received first aid and was taken to Larnaca general hospital by ambulance.

From the ordeal she suffered sunburn and some minor injuries from salt crystals.

In the middle of the lake temperatures above 50C prevail due to the reflection of the salt.
