Batch of lountza recalled

The health services on Wednesday recalled Katsikides brand of lountza after laboratory tests showed it contained excessive levels of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs).

PAHs are a group of more than 100 different chemicals that released from burning coal, oil, gasoline, trash, tobacco, wood, or other organic substances such as chargrilled meat.

The recalled batch was packed on April 19 and its best before date is December 14. The country of origin is Cyprus.

The health services have already told the producer to withdraw the batch in question from the market immediately. Since some of it may already have been purchased consumers are urged to avoid eating the lountza and return it to the point of purchase.
