An ensemble to bring a bit of Italy to Nicosia

Watch out Nicosia, a Greek band that really does represent the World Music scene is coming over for one show-stopping performance on Monday night.

The band, Encardia, follows the vivid musical tradition of the Greek population of Southern Italy. Its repertoire includes romantic songs and songs that deal with social issues.

Encardia came together in 2004 and, over the band’s 13-year run so far, its members have given more than 500 live performances in Greece, Germany, Italy, France and in Cyprus. The band has also produced five highly acclaimed albums.

Encardia – Kostas Konstantatos (tamporello, violin, mandolin, vocals), Vangelis Papageorgiou (accordion, vocals), Dimitris Tsekouras (double bass, vocals), Michalis Kontaxakis (guitar, vocals), and Natalia Kotsani – have collaborated on recordings and live performances with Cinzia Villani, Enza Pagilara, Mala Lingua, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino and many more artists from the Italian music scene. But the band has also performed with artists closer to home, including Nikos Zidakis, Vasilis Lekkas and Keti Koulla.

A highlight of the band’s career came in 2008, when the musicians performed at the La Note della Taranta festival in Italy to over 120,000 audience members.
