Remands in sex-for-sale case

Two people who were arrested early on Wednesday on suspicion of selling women for sex were remanded for four days by Paphos district court.

A police associate who visited a Paphos pub was approached by the 72-year-old owner and told he could have sex for €100 with a 39-year-old woman with whom he was talking.

The man agreed and paid with two banknotes which had been marked by the police.

He then went with the woman to a room above the bar. A little later police officers searched the pub and found the sum of €2,690 which included the two €50 notes the associate had paid with.
Both the 72-year-old and the woman were immediately arrested.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a 35-year-old bar owner in Kato Paphos, after complaints of a 26-year-old woman that her employer- along with a 37-year-old – were forcing her into prostitution and urged her to sleep with clients.

The bar owner was brought before Paphos district on Wednesday and a seven-day remand was issued against him.
