One arrested after football club incursion

A 28-year-old man from Larnaca was arrested Saturday night in connection with an incursion by some 50 football hooligans on Friday into the Nea Salamina FC clubhouse that led to the injury of one person, and extensive damage.

The attack took place at around 9pm on Friday when around 50 people who wore the colours of Anorthosis and had their faces covered, raided the Nea Salamina fan club, located next to the main entrance of the Ammochostos stadium, which had just hosted a game between the two teams. Salamina won the match, 2-1.

Wielding clubs, the mob smashed the furniture and glass windows. Ten people were inside the club at the time; nine managed to escape but a 19-year-old who was assaulted by the hoodlums, suffered head injury. He was taken to hospital where he received stitches before he was discharged.
