Arrest for beating up debtor

A 39-year-old man against whom an arrest warrant was issued for allegedly hitting a 38-year-old with his car last week and beating him up over a €600,000 debt, was arrested on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Saturday, when the victim reported that the suspect had called him and threatened him over delayed instalments concerning a €600,000 loan he had taken from a relative of the 39-year-old.

According to the report, the suspect, following the telephone call, went to the house of the victim where he allegedly drove his car towards him, hitting him, and then he got out of the car and started kicking and punching him while he was on the ground, asking for the money he owes to his relative.

The victim was taken to a private clinic where he was given first aid and released.

Police were able to locate the 39-year-old on Tuesday. He is being investigated for causing bodily harm and is to be presented before court on Wednesday for a remand.
