Two-day duration for 2017 Limassol Marathon

The organisers of the Limassol GSO Marathon have made an important organisational change ahead of the 2017 event, which will now have a two-day duration.

The Limassol GSO Marathon will take place for an 11th consecutive year on the weekend of 18-19 March 2017, offering the opportunity to the competitors on both days to enjoy a unique experience in one of Europe’s loveliest marathons.

Following the decision to turn the Limassol GSO Marathon into a two-day event, Saturday March 18th will feature the Primetel Corporate 5km Race and the Kid’s 1km Race and Sunday 19th of March will play host to the marathon, half marathon, Petrolina 10km Energy Race and 5km City Race.

For those who will enroll in December, a 20 per cent discount will be available.

With 13,000 runners, the 2016 Limassol GSO Marathon was the largest (in terms of competitors) sporting event ever to take place in Cyprus and one of the largest in the region. The event is certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) and will also feature as the annual Pancyprian Marathon Race of the Cyprus Athletics Federation.

The sporting aspect of the event will be even more upgraded, with the target to attract high level runners from around the world.

The flat course and the ideal Cypriot summer-like weather conditions of March benefit those who are seeking to set records. The start of the marathon and the rest of the Sunday races will take place at 7am. An extra bonus will be in place for any athletes who break the course records.

The Primetel Corporate 5km Race, the event with the largest participation, will be upgraded ahead of the 2017 event. A new course has been designed while the competitors will be split between two categories – runners and walkers.

The start will be at 9am on Saturday March 18th and the Kids 1km Race will start at 11am.

The participants in the Primetel Corporate 5km Race will also have the opportunity to run in the individual 5km City Race on Sunday by paying the symbolic 10 euro fee, which will then be given to charity.
